GAUHAUS / WE ARE LIABLE FOR OUR HISTORY
Process 1 : The reappraised history.
“… The New Federal Tyrolean State House, built as the Gauhaus, bears witness to a dark period of Tyrolean history – for this reason alone, the repeated calls in the past for the building to be redesigned, or even demolished, are inappropriate. One’s own history cannot be undone or made invisible. Rather, the unpleasant past of the New Federal Tyrolean State House must be a mandate for our democratically legitimized government and administration to work in this building for the benefit of the province of Tyrol and its people.” Text, Dr. Christoph Haidacher
Process 2 : The Transformation into a Monument.
WE ARE LIABLE FOR OUR HISTORY, is inscribed directly on the front of the facade at the main entrance to the New Federal Tyrolean State House. The written contract – WE ARE LIABLE FOR OUR HISTORY – is directly connected with the body of the fascist monumental building and its history. With the act of inscription, its historical and architectural impact is reformatted and the Gauhaus is transformed into a monument.
Process 3: Political Participation
Through the individual and collective actions of the people working in it, the respective government and administration, as well as the participating population, OUR HISTORY is continued together in the participatory monument, the transformed New Federal Tyrolean State House.
