For the video CAPITAL FUCKS MEN Franz Wassermann films bits and pieces of the TV program shown in April 2003 in Sharjah, Saudi Arabia. The artist who was invited to Sharjah to participate in the local biennale thereby reacts to the invasion of Iraq by USA and the "coalition of the willing" which started some days earlier. In the video he intermingles different contents like e.g. the soap opera "The Bold and the Beautiful" with Arabic subtitles, a reportage about the pilgrimage of Muslims to Kaaba and US-American news reports about the beginning of the war. In between these elements the artist himself is appearing for some seconds; the switched off television mirrors him naked and with a video camera in front of the screen. |
